Our acid wash Damascus gets its color from soaking the ring in an acid bath which adds a texture to the surface of the ring. As it is impossible to predict how the acid wash will react with each ring, the acid wash Damascus can vary in color from a light gray to a darker gray. The rings below are all examples of acid wash Damascus Steel rings to show how much the color can vary from ring to ring. Also, as the acid is only able to penetrate a small amount, the finish lightens over time to resemble a dull polish. The ring can be refinished at any time to return it to a like-new state.
Our tumble finish Kuro Damascus gets its coloring from an acid wash as well which adds texture to the metal and darkens it up. As the Kuro Damascus has much more dramatic patterns to it, it can also vary a great deal from ring to ring. The coloring does last longer than standard Damascus as the darker parts are protected a little due to the deeper etching on Kuro Damascus. However, it can still lighten some over time. The ring can be refinished at any time to return it to a like-new state.
