Jewelry Care 101: Maintaining Your Men's Rings

Men's ring care and cleaning

Whether it's your wedding band, a statement piece, or a family heirloom, every ring carries significance. Men's rings are built for everyday wear — but they still benefit from a simple care routine. Follow these tips to keep your ring looking as good as the day you chose it.

Daily Care Tips

Active Lifestyle

  • Pre-wear check. Before heading out for high-intensity activity, make sure your ring is secure — or consider removing it to prevent damage.
  • After activity. Rinse or wipe your ring after workouts to remove sweat and grime, which can corrode metal and dull the finish over time.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning

Use a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can scratch or damage the metal surface.

Deep cleaning

Soak in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush — especially under stone settings where grime collects.

Storage & Handling

  • Safe storage. Keep your ring in a soft cloth pouch or lined jewelry box when not wearing it to prevent scratches.
  • Regular checks. Inspect periodically for signs of wear or damage, especially if your ring features inlays or gemstones.

Professional Maintenance

Routine Inspections

Send your ring to us once a year and we will check it for loose settings, structural weakness, and worn inlays before any of them turn into real damage. Keep that work in house: any service performed by someone other than REVOLUTION voids your lifetime warranty, size adjustments and engravings included.

Choosing the Right Metal

If you lead an active lifestyle, ask about materials rated for durability. Tungsten and titanium are popular for their resistance to scratching and bending. Platinum develops a natural patina over time that many wearers appreciate.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Scratches & Dents

Surface scratches are inevitable with active wear. Refinishing normal wear and tear is covered by your lifetime warranty, so send the ring to us and we will bring it back close to new. You cover shipping both ways. If deep scratches are a concern, consider a metal or finish that wears gracefully — like brushed titanium or a matte finish, which hides everyday marks more naturally than a high polish.

Resizing

Fingers change size with weight, season, and lifestyle. Most of what we make cannot be resized at all. Tungsten, cobalt chrome, carbon fiber, black zirconium, black titanium, antler, and any ring built around an inlay are sized when they are made. Titanium can go up by a very small amount and never down. Solid gold is the exception and sizes either way. If the fit is wrong, contact us about a size exchange rather than taking the ring elsewhere, because outside work voids your warranty.

FAQs

Can I wear my ring in the pool or ocean?

Chlorine and saltwater can damage certain metals and gemstones over time. It's best to remove your ring before swimming when possible.

How do I protect my ring during manual work?

For heavy manual work, consider wearing a protective glove over your ring, or remove it entirely to prevent bending, scratching, or inlay damage.

What should I do if my ring starts to change color?

Discoloration usually results from the metal reacting with your skin's pH or exposure to harsh substances like cleaning chemicals. Contact us and we will take a look. A cleaning or a different metal may be the answer, and having us do the work keeps your warranty intact.
