Gold is one the most conductive materials on earth. It’s unique properties make it perfect for use in everything from high-tech electronics to coating on deep-space telescope mirrors and Olympic medals to high-end architecture in gold leafing. Platinum is considered a noble metal due to its incredible resistance to corrosion, making it ideal for a range of exotic uses from laboratory equipment to platinum-based chemotherapy drugs. In addition to gold and platinum’s unique properties and uses, both are inherently beautiful metals with natural lusters and colors unlike any other material. These characteristics, in combination with their rarity, has made their value so great that we now casually refer to them as precious metals.
Of the thousands of relationships we form over our lifetime, we hold most dear our significant other. It is fitting that we symbolize that love with a ring – the eternal round, an unending circle. Cultures through the world have used different materials for wedding rings, but as our collective wealth has increased, we’ve chosen the most precious of metals and materials to use instead. It makes sense that we couple the most precious and valuable of materials with the most significant of symbols worn every day to remind us of the natural love shared in marriage.
Our precious metals include white, yellow, and rose gold, as well as palladium and platinum. All classic bands are cut from precious metal tubing made through hot extrusion. Hot extrusion is a complex process that results in a precious metal that is easier to stretch and size, has zero porosity, and is more dense. This type of metal processing creates an unparalleled precious metal ring.
Gold’s ability to be molded, shaped and carved into intricate designs has made it a popular metal for use in jewelry over the centuries. Gold is measured in karats (K). Karats refer to the purity of gold, with 24K being the most pure. Interestingly, pure gold is rarely used in jewelry because it is so soft. Gold is typically mixed with other metals to make it stronger and more durable for everyday wear. We offer 10K, 14K, and 18K gold for precious metal bands.
Platinum is a relatively new member of the precious family. It is rare and pure, being measured in terms of its percentage of purity. To be called platinum, an item should be at least 50% pure platinum. We use the highest quality platinum available, registering at 95% purity. Platinum’s most appealing characteristic, however, is it’s unchanging white color. It wears very well over time, especially in comparison to other precious metals. It can develop a patina of wear, a unique and desired attribute to platinum.
Palladium offers many of the same characteristics of platinum, but at a lower cost. Like platinum, palladium is measured in purity. Again we use the highest quality palladium available, registering at 95% purity. Also, compared to the extreme weight and density of platinum, palladium is noticeably lighter.
Any of our style can be ordered in precious metal, including 10K, 14K, and 18K Yellow, Rose and White Gold, as well as Palladium and Platinum
White gold is an alloy of gold mixed with some white metals such as silver, palladium or nickel. It’s silvery white character makes it an appealing metal to use in jewelry. Often, white gold is plated with Rhodium to make the white gold look even more white.
Yellow gold has a natural warm color and high resistance to rust, tarnish and corrosion. It is a very strong metal, but still soft enough to be worked into interesting shapes.
The beautiful pink hue of rose gold jewelry is created by using copper in the alloy. It offers a modern twist on a classic material. Rose gold will not fade or change in color over time.
Platinum is a naturally white metal and it will never fade or change color. Unlike gold, platinum is used in jewelry in its almost pure form (approximately 95% pure). Because it is so pure, it is an excellent option for people with metal sensitivities and allergies.
Palladium is one of the rarest metals in the world. It has a superior resistance to corrosion and oxidation. It is extremely durable and naturally white in color. It is similar to platinum, but lighter in weight. Palladium is also hypoallergenic, making it an excellent option for people with metal sensitivities and allergies.
Precious metal rings offer endless options for design, style, and customization. These rings can be made in three-piece variations, inlaid with diamonds and gemstones, laser carved, and formed into unique designs and shapes.
Precious metal rings are just that - precious. Precious metals are softer than alternative metals, and should be taken care of accordingly. Precious metal rings should be treated as fine jewelry, and should be removed during harsh activities to avoid scratching.
As long as your ring doesn't contain meteorite, you can clean these rings with jewelry cleaner. All touch-ups or refurbishing should be sent to Revolution. If your ring does contain meteorite please refer to the meteorite cleaning instructions. Besides this single note, precious metal rings need no special care.
How do precious metals wear over time?
Platinum can develop a patina of wear. While a desirable characteristic, the pre-patina shine can easily be revived. Gold can wear thin over time. Palladium can also show wear over time. We stand ready to factory refurbish precious metal bands anytime for free
