Copper is an attractive and affordable alternative to Rose Gold. Unlike Rose Gold, it can tarnish over time and may turn your skin green with extended wear — but with a little routine care, these issues can be kept to a minimum.
How to Clean Copper
Copper rings require no special cleaning products. Standard jewelry cleaner works well for everyday maintenance.
Contains meteorite? If your ring includes a meteorite inlay, do
not use standard jewelry cleaner on it — follow the
meteorite cleaning instructions instead.
How to Remove Copper Tarnishing
- 1 Mix 3 parts lemon juice with 1 part salt in a small bowl.
- 2 Stir until all the salt has fully dissolved into the lemon juice.
- 3 Dip a sponge into the mixture and rub it vigorously on the tarnished copper only — avoid contact with any other metals in your ring. This is usually enough to remove tarnish.
- 4 For stubborn tarnish, add 1 part white vinegar to the mixture and repeat. Make a final pass over the copper, being careful not to touch it with bare skin.
- 5 Rinse the copper section of the ring thoroughly with clean water.
- 6 Apply a thin coat of car wax or jewelry wax to the copper only, avoiding other metals. The wax slows future tarnishing and creates a barrier that helps prevent skin discoloration.
