Ring Material Comparison — Revolution

Choosing a ring material is the most important decision you'll make about your wedding band. Get it right and you'll wear it every day without thinking about it. Get it wrong and you'll be googling "can you resize a tungsten ring" six months later.

At Revolution, we work with a wider range of materials than almost anyone else — traditional precious metals, cutting-edge alloys, and inlays made from real wood, antler, meteorite, and more. This guide covers what each material looks, feels, and wears like in real life. No marketing fluff — just what you actually need to know.

Traditional gold in yellow, white, or rose — the most recognized wedding band material in the world, and for good reason. Gold will show scratches and develop a patina over time; many men consider this character, not damage. Available in 10K, 14K, and 18K.

Definitions

Scratch-Resistance

The ability of a ring to resist surface scratches from daily wear. Materials like tungsten and ceramic are highly scratch-resistant, while softer metals like gold may show wear over time.

Crack-Resistance

A ring's ability to withstand impact without breaking. While tungsten is scratch-resistant, it is more prone to cracking upon strong impact, whereas metals like titanium and gold are more crack-resistant.

Weight

Refers to how heavy or light a ring feels on the finger. Metals like tungsten and platinum are heavier, while titanium and carbon fiber are extremely lightweight for enhanced comfort.

Durability

A combination of scratch, crack, and bend resistance, as well as overall longevity. Durable rings withstand daily wear without losing their structure or finish — titanium, tantalum, and cobalt chrome are excellent choices.

Hypoallergenic

Rings made from materials unlikely to cause allergic reactions or skin irritation. Hypoallergenic options include platinum, titanium, cobalt chrome, and tantalum, while nickel-containing alloys may trigger sensitivities.

Customizable

The ability to personalize a ring's design, including engraving, unique inlays, finishes, widths, and custom materials. Gold, titanium, and Damascus steel offer extensive customization options.
